Should a bride go for DIY hairstyles during her wedding? While most would prefer hiring a hairstylist, we say ‘why not’. Whether you want to save money or add some personalised touches, DIY details can make a huge impact. DIY, or do-it-yourself, is a trend which is fast catching up in India. We bring to you an easy hairstyle that is perfect for your wedding day or even your cocktail night. Hairstyles like this one look good for both formal as well as informal occasions. A lot of Indian brides prefer a lehenga choli with a dupatta covering their head on their wedding day, and this hairstyle can be perfect. Called the sock bun, it is one of the most popular hairstyles for brides. Here’s a step-by-step guide to make the perfect sock bun.
Step 1: To get started with this hairstyle, get hold of a sock that you hardly use any longer. The longer the sock, the thicker and fuller the bun will be. And of course, the sock should be black in colour.
Step 2: Cut off the toes part of the sock. All that will be left would be a tube-shaped piece of black fabric.
Step 3: Now you need to make the donut for the bun. Take the outside edges of the sock and start rolling it inside-out until it takes the shape of a donut. The better donut you make, the better your hairstyle will look.
Step 4: Depending on where you would like your bun, comb your hair into a ponytail. You may place it high or low depending on your preference.
Step 5: If you want your hair to remain in place, apply gel or mousse. Hairstyles look neat and well-made when a fair amount of gel or mousse is applied, especially when it comes to occasions like weddings.
Step 6: To get the required volume in your hairstyle, sliding in the comb always helps. So, if you want more volume in front of your bun, slide in a comb beneath the hair on top and loosen it slightly.
Step 7: Once everything is in place, start looping the donut-shaped sock over the end of your ponytail.
Step 8: Now take the end of the ponytail and bend the hair over the edge of the sock, tucking it underneath and through the bottom of the loop.
Step 9: Keep rolling the sock down the ponytail until it reaches your head, rolling and tucking your hair along with it.
Step 10: Once the bun is in place, secure it with clips and bobby pins. You may even apply a little hairspray.
