The 3rd edition of the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2012, held from 12-17 September 2012 at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai was everything that a bride could ask for. Top notch designers displayed their most opulent bridal wear with leading superstars as their showstoppers. Tarun Tahiliani opened the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2012 with a dazzling show, with models walking down the ramp barefoot. In a jungle-like set-up, models sashayed down the ramp in stunning lehengas, anarkalis and shararas. The sultry Chitrangada Singh was the show-stopper for the evening.
Jyotsna Tiwari’s collection Mystical Romance was a head turner. Oozing sexiness and sensuality, the collection couldn’t have been anything but bridal. Sonakshi Sinha as well as Ankita Shorey, the face of AVIBW 2012 walked in spell-binding creations by the designer.
Narendra Kumar’s first-ever bridal couture was launched at this year’s AVIBW. The creations were marked by Kumar’s western sensibilities as well as keeping the traditional Indian bride in mind. A beautifully structured bridal collection it was! Saif Ali Khan was the show-stopper.
Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor
Titled as The Mogul Opera, designer duo Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor’s show had the designers’ signature opera-style gowns interspersed with traditional Indian embroidery. This year’s collection displayed the exquisite Jamevaar heritage. Bong bombshell Bipasha Basu looked like a princess as the show-stopper.
Raag Rattan, the bridal collection by Ashima Leena was elegance and classiness personified. The creations in different jewel tones were pretty and pleasing to the eye. Beautiful sarees, suits, anarkalis made a stunning display at the ramp. Definitely, a collection heirloom worthy!
Meera and Muzaffar Ali
Presenting one of the most breathtaking collections at the fashion week, Meera and Muzaffar Ali’s collection Jamazeb was an ode to all things beautiful. Glitz, glamour, tradition, craft… the creations had it all. Minute detailing with appliqués played a significant role in the entire collection.
The World Gold Council presented a feast for the eyes with the Azva jewellery collection. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, waistbands, all that an Indian bride could ask for. The attires were by ace designer Anita Dongre. Newlyweds Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani were the show-stoppers.
Mandira Wirk’s bridal collection was inspired by the English bride, with gowns and minis making an appearance. Feminine, pastel colours, flowy trains and tulle veils ushered in bridal fashion like never before. The seductive Malaika Arora Khan walked the ramp in a silver one-shoulder gown.
Titled Romantic Renaissance, designer duo Shantanu Nikhil’s bridal collection was dreamy, elegant and classic. Rich colours, gorgeous silhouettes, perfect cuts… all in all, an outstanding bridal collection. Siddharth Mallya, the dashing dude made a handsome show-stopper in a vibrant combination.
Pallavi Jaikishan and her trademark creations were on display at AVIBW 2012. The floral embroidery, pastel colours and lehenga-saree formed part of her Ashrafiyan collection. Every bridal trousseau deserves at least one of her creation for all posterity to see.
Falguni and Shane Peacock
The talented designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock presented their Peacock Bride in Paris, a wonderful amalgamation of their Western edginess and traditional Indian roots. Zarine Khan and Sarah Jane Dias posed as the perfect show-stoppers at this dazzling show.
If there’s one designer who does justice to the bling of Bollywood, it has to be Vikram Phadnis. His collection was all grandiose and glamour. Richness and ornate display of colours, fabrics and embroidery was aplenty. The petite Soha Ali Khan painted a pretty picture as the show-stopper for the evening.
JJ Valaya and opulence are almost synonymous. Set against a backdrop in Turkey, Valaya’s bridal collection was lavishness personified. Amidst belly dancers and gymnasts, models sashayed down the ramp in full glory. The ethereal Nargis Fakhri was the perfect show-stopper.
