If you seek a picture-perfect destination wedding, then Udaipur is where you should head for your dream wedding. From picturesque lakes to beautiful palaces, Udaipur is legendary for its stories of love and valour. Hence, it comes as no surprise that it is regarded as one of the most romantic cities of the World, and aptly named 'Venice of East'. Also known as ‘Lake City’, most of Udaipur’s grand marbled palaces have been converted into luxury hotels, which have added allure and imagination to Udaupir as a destination wedding. Udaipur is well-connected to other cities, and on the Golden Quadrilateral, midway between Delhi and Mumbai National Highway.
Udaipur’s grandeur is synonymous with the legacy of its founder Maharana Udai Singh. The city is known for its historic and cultural values. People here take pride in their heritage which one experiences today through the hospitality accorded to its tourists. Following are a few places that must be part of your itinerary while touring this culturally rich heritage city.
The beauty of the grand palaces amidst tranquilizing azure lake water is a dream wedding destination. And in the ‘Lake City’ fulfilling this dream is easy. The City Palace is located on the banks of Lake Pichol, one of the most-visited tourist attractions of Udaipur. The palace is a fusion of Medieval, European and Chinese Architecture, and within its complex walls are a series of corridors, courtyards, gardens, fountains, terraces, all enveloping eleven other palaces such as Sheesh mahal, Dilkhush mahal, Moti Mahal and Krishna Vilas. Two palaces, namely Shiv Niwas Palace and the Fateh Prakash Palace have been converted into heritage hotels. All the palaces house antique artifacts and splendid handicrafts.
Another perfect destination wedding is Udaipur Lake Palace, believed to be one of the most romantic places on earth. The Palace is built amidst the scenic Pichola Lake with the imposing Aravalli Hills on one side. Constructed by Maharana Jai Singh II in 1746 as a summer resort, the palace is a sight to behold. There are numerous terraces, courtyards, fountains and well laid gardens interlaced with several, richly decorated rooms such as Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal, Dhola Mahal, Bada Mahal and Khush Mahal. Each room is adorned with carved arches, stained glass work, paintings, inland stones of pink and green lotus leaves and crystal work.
Jag Mandir Palace, located on the southern island of Lake Pichola lays testimony to the generosity of Maharana Karan Singh towards Prince Khurram, popularly known as Shah Jahan. The palace served as a hiding place for Prince Khurram and his family. The palatial structure is made in yellow sandstone and marble, and its architectural design has strong Islamic influences.
City of Lakes A visit to Udaipur would be incomplete without a visit to its enchanting lakes. The artificially created Jaisamand Lake, the second largest artificial lake in Asia is located just 48 kms from the city. The lake comprises seven islands, and is close to a wildlife sanctuary. A summer palace stands on the northern shore of the lake, and its courtyard serves as a perfect backdrop to Jaisamand Lake.
Fateh Sagar Lake is another artificial lake of Udaipur and is located to the north of Lake Pichola. The lake comprises of three well-laid and planned islands, which can be reached by taking a boat ride. The largest Island has been developed into a garden known as Nehru Park with a small zoo and a boat-shaped restaurant, the second island too has been developed as a public park, while the third one has the Udaipur Solar Observatory built upon it.
This dream destination wedding also boasts of beautiful temples, gardens, monuments, museums and art galleries where you can experience the grandeur of the Udaipur royal family and local culture. Capture a part of Udaipur by browsing and choosing colourful memories through the markets of Udaipur.
